So I posed the question a couple days ago and got what I was hoping for,the question is and will always be,Will you be willing to pay to park? It was pretty much a mixed bag of sorts.
With the way trucking is and the hours of service electronic logs,data recorders and so much more,cheating the log book has become a harder challenge then ever,staying with in a 14 hour clock is at times real hard to almost impossible. Not that I am saying drivers cheat the log book,I am just making the statement cause if you really look at the way things have changed for us in just a few years we are so limited in how we do things.
In some parts of the country parking is not a big issue,however other parts are. You pull in to a truck stop at 7 pm and their is no place to park. Yet other places you go you can pull in at midnight and find a spot.
So as the question goes,are you willing to pay to park?
In general point I got,"Only if that's the last option". So who then should be responsible for us to build parking spots,the federal government ? State or Local Governments? Private companies ? Well that is always been up for debate,after all the feds created the rules and their for should build us places,but then again they build them and then close them up or even think about this,when you use government rest areas they where built with tax dollars,so in turn you are paying for parking their even if you don't use them or not.
Cities should have parking areas built in industrial areas if they want us to move their stuff they should! On that one,their was the city of South Bend In that built a area just for trucks going to the industrial park on the east side of town,well they had to close it up cause drivers where trashing the place,pee bottles,trash,tires and oil,vandalism to the small out houses they built,and drivers making noise like crazy,so after a while they had no chose but to close it up. Never was the issue of crime,just trash.
Should it be up to the shippers and receivers? They want us their to move "their" fright so they need to provide us with a place to park. Well on that note,a food warehouse in Northern Ct had done just that,drivers where allowed to come in early for their appointment time and park,until the one day a driver was robbed and sued the chain for $500,000 and it was latter found out he was never robbed,just an insurance scam,I do believe they did jail time,but the chain said they don't want the risk for the safety of the driver and trucks.
Shopping centers,malls,stores,and many other places used to let us park,not any more,reasons are two,one,drivers that feel they are the gift to economy and can do what they want they have to be respected (I see it all the time today) to where they park where the cars are and block spaces. Two,the trash issue,pee bottles and lazy trash throwers.
So that leaves the privet property owners,like the truck stops,I saw where a couple people posted that they rip you off and over price EVERYTHING,yes I agree truck/travel stop/centers are over priced now a days. So thing about this,who cleans the lot(their are some that do so lets say them)? Who patches the pot holes? Who cleans the place? The property owners do and as we in the trucking know,we have too many drivers who are lazy and hurt the rest of us,but I don't see truck drivers out their picking up trash,I don't see truck drivers cleaning the fuel island,refilling the washer fluid,helping empty the trash,nope instead I see and here drivers complain about how bad the place is.
In general I think before we go and make haste about the "horrible" and "evil" greedy chains and think about how maybe we can help out in some ways today. So until someone can up with a good strong plan to help the truckers and companies we may just end up their paying to park.
And on a side note,Jason's Law is not going to help parking,just like the other government help outs,we all get screwed in the end. As I said before it sucks what happen to Jason but it's a feel good law,an empty cake with sweet frosting on the out side.

People Are Stupiod,I tink?
And so it goes once again the people forget bitten by the media bug,I just have to get this off my chest!
The Casey Antony case,First off does anyone realize that the whole case has been contaminated by the fact the news media has jumped on this case as if it was a terrorist plot to end the world,oh wait,could not be that simple.
It all started 3 years ago when CNN reporter Nancy Grace found this local story out of the Orlando Fl area about police investing the issue of a missing 2 year old girl and stories that didn't match. So after police turned up nothing after nothing Grace kept hounding over and over,then a maintenance worker finds a body. Well it takes off from their.
As we move on all the other networks jump on board as the US Government starts doing other things that are not very good for the trucking industry,the battle of hours of service,Mexican trucks,EOBR's(electronic on board recorders,like a black box for trucks),speed limiters,driver (so called) health issues and more. Yet as we move further and still after the simple fact that the Casey Anthony case takes headlines as the US signs the deal to let Mexican trucks in.
To go back to the Antony case,if people has no clue or are so blind to see whats going on,think about this,for over 3 years the media has horrifie this case from every penny and as so may people brought into the hype of a woman who should have never had a child or even the fact that now the public and media has made this woman a super star,every where you go,talk radio is a buzz,and book deals will come.
The judge let the media run the show,opps I mean hearing,the judge had the right to limit the cameras to even just let the people that do the pictures and let the reporters in,but nope,he let them in. The jury,well how would you like to be locked up for 2 weeks with little to no contact with family or friends,get a whole $25 a day,and have to work on Sundays and the 4th,so because they had to do this they are good for nothing? Come on people,do you really believe all this. I am just so aggravated on how the American people are acting.
Back to trucking and news media,they NEVER talk about the real issues,Fox,CNN.MSNBC they don't cover the news. Its simple it only makes news if its it makes ratings.
So as we move on please please I employ you to call your reps and tell them enough is enough. I am posting some links.

World With Out Trucks.
Your driving you nice pretty Corvette,cruising down that big old interstate at 85 mile per hour,not a care in the world suddenly you are cut off by one of those dang nasty pain in the butt semi trucks! Curses! You stupid mother #@$%! Get out of my way!
Well you get past him after a long hard 2 1/2 miles at 72 miles per hour,you flip him off and act a fool! Then you head to the park for the car show,but you have to stop and get gas,a drink and a bag of chips everyday convince food. Yep CONVINCE.
So would you think of a truck as being convent? Most people out side of trucking would not,they really have no clue what things they use everyday is moved via a truck,sure the rail move stuff,but do you know today 87% of rail fright is moved on a rail container ? Do you know what those even are? Well pretty much they are a box that is put on a flat version of a train car. They are moved by a large crane and put on a chassis that is then locked down and looks like a truck trailer. Yet they are stilled moved via a truck.
Think about this one,right now you are reading this on your computer or even phone,you have a device that is made out of plastic and stuff,that plastic was made from oil and compounds,that was made in a warehouse some where in the world. Now as you sip your beverage well powered up on the computer that gets it's power from the power plant miles away,a truck brought that coal to dump in that hopper to burn,a utility crew put those power lines up with their trucks which is powered by the fuel that a tanker brought from a refiner some where,that was on a pipeline from some where as well,I think you get the point.
The news media can care less about the story of the average American truck driver,who has a family or sadly had a family that because of his job it split. They only care about the carnage of a wreck,"Truck Kills 3 in Wreck" and it turns out that it was a pick up,besides I have never seen a vehicle randomly kill,of course Steven King showed us that trucks can kill in Max mum Overdrive,but really the face that we have cars,trucks,motorcycles and stuff on the roads its,a virile part of the system,with every culture we will have some sort of transportation system.
I don't buy into "Without Trucks America Would Stop" because if that happened their would be something else,besides is anyone really going to shut down? No I don't think so. We just need to learn and deal with each other.

Are Trucks A Third Class Citzen ?
You see them every day,they are on the little skinny 2 lane roads they are on the wide open interstates,yet most Americans never think about the men and woman who drive those big 18 wheelers,except those who have a connection to the industry. They are treated by most states as an income in the name of "safety" but get fines and points for what most 4 wheelers would get a warning as well as getting called a maniac or homicidal crazy driver.
However they are not,sure we have a few crazy's in the industry but we have bad cops,firemen and even representatives who have no heart or good to them and are on a power trip. Still if you are not a trucker or someone who don't know much about trucking then you don't have a clue to what life is like on the road,so please let me tell you.
A truck drivers days starts on a 14 hour clock better known as hours of service which is the time a driver can work and drive,I understand the concept for being tired behind the wheel however a doctor who cuts people and is responsible for their health is not limited to the amount of hours they work,a police officer nor a firefighter is either,yet if a driver gets caught going over his 11 hours of driving for even 15 minutes could see fines in the thousands of dollars,yet the other people are not.
Parking,we are banded by many cities from parking in malls,shopping centers and other places whit huge parking lots,as well as some cities not wanting trucks even in town till after a certain hour and if you get caught well,just say it's not good. You may say go to a truck stop,well in many areas the truck stop fills up early and not very big,making us have to drive further then we are allowed or need to. Some rest areas are small but also fill up. Customers don't always allow trucks to come in early or park on their lot some say it's for safety but realty it's more like the locals don't want those nasty stanky truckers around.
Truth is truck drivers are NOT,I REPEAT,ARE NOT,like the Convoy,Smokey and The Bandit,or the 60/70's movies of these tough rebellious truckers bent on revenge. The fact is many are hard working men and woman who have families at home wanting them to get back safe and sound. Most of the companies and owner operators out here are safe,they maintain their trucks to DOT specks,it cost a lot to run these big rigs. A few bad apples make the news where as the good every day ones don't they just flow on and think nothing of it.
We are not skilled labor,According to the US Department Of Labor this may sound crazy because we are required to get a CDL in order to driver a truck over 26,000 lbs,and have to take tests and get training,yet most drivers don't get hourly the get a mileage or percentage pay. It can get complicated about what and how some are paid. So when I'm sitting in traffic I'm not getting paid,or sitting at the dock for hours,I'm doing that for free as well,and to touch on that shippers and receivers take advantage of many drivers times when they will charge to unload a truck,make a driver sit at the dock for hours or even make them sit inside in a boxed like room with no ac or even heat. Their are many other stories that I'm sure could be just as horrifying.
Driving around the big rigs,ok take this in to account when you see a big semi,that truck could be loaded with up to but not limited to 80,000 pounds,the more the axles the heaver it is likely to be. With all that weight our trucks can take up to a foot ball field to stop at 60 mile per hour (about 360 feet) and we have lots of blind spots too. Tail gating,hanging out on the side left or right is not a wise thing,between the passenger door and the right hood fender(if you are under the passengers side mirror)that's the worst blind spot. This goes for both big trucks and cars,don't linger around the truck back off or quickly pass without being a danger. Use common sense please.
Wrap up. As you have read the life of a trucker is very challenging and almost differential at times but yet most of us out here do enjoy what we do for a living,it's a life style not a career,many days away from home,all kinda of weather,rain,snow,ice,sun,wind,and wildlife and more. Times our families worry about us on the roads never knowing what can happen. Or if they will ever know what happens. Don't judge unless you want judged!
1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. - Matthew 7:1-2(niv) Today many Christians think that I am saved because I have accepted Jesus Christ,and now I have the right to go and judge others. Well guess what?YOU DON'T!
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:3(niv)
Ok,so how wrong are you to judge someone based on your personal beliefs? Do you have the right to judge me because you think you are going to Heaven, now that you have accepted the Lord? Why must those people who are Christians go unto to the world and say I am now the judge of God? Those who go out and clam this are in themselves no better then the sinner they accuse. "How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?" Matthew 7:4(niv) To say I am not of sin,when the judgement of sin is right their as you judge that other person,you can not be a judge when you yourself can not uphold the law.
"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye" Matthew 7:5(niv) Understand you are two timing the talk,you have not nor have you understood the true compassion of what Jesus came here for,we are called to love, "11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." John 15:11-13(niv),to love one is not to take strong judgement upon,that is best left to God alone. We are just messengers here to serve an awesome God who has done much and will continue to. We need to show love by understanding and talking as a normal person,one who has an open mind,Jesus hung around the tax collectors,poorest of poor,fisherman and everyday normal people of that time. So take these words to heart,pray as your heart sees fit,don't go into the world with a self righteous attitude and expect people to come to Christ at that moment.
Those who judge with out thinking are the headliners that make people hate Christians,we are the most hated in general because we are the most humble and will take hits from others and do it with love,and we don't fight with guns,swords,or even words of hate,but we fight with the truth of our savoir Jesus the Christ. I am call on ALL brothers and sisters in Christ not to fight over judgement,but pray and lead others,give words of who you where and how Jesus changed your life,show them through the peace of the God who created us how it can be.
Please pray with me,"Father,you are without a fare judge one who has given us a lifetime of freewill,a God who does not hate,if you did hate us we would be dead,you sent your son to clear the way for us to see you face to face,I plead to you to open the hearts of those who have accepted your son and feel they must now be judge,free them,open them to you the true judge,give them the love you gave me. Free them,and thank you Father,In the mighty name of Jesus I pray,Amen"
